Dance is an important part of our culture and everyday lives in Armenia today, as it has been for so many years. Through all the hardships endured by Armenians, dance has been a way to express our emotions, our lifestyle, and our love of our nation.
Traditional Armenian dance has been passed down from generation to generation and is still used in celebration of our culture today. Armenians choreograph the most beautiful modern dance sequences which are an artistic display of movements and expressions. Street dance has also become an important part of the lives of the youth, Particularly those in Yerevan, who bring an electric, energetic vibe to the streets of their community. Street dance competitions are popular and attract crowds who gather to see the dancers perform.
Today, we can enjoy different forms of dance, from jazz and hip-hop, to modern dance, ballet and even the more formal likes of ballroom dancing. For many of us, our traditional Armenian folk dancing is very dear to our hearts. We have also engaged in other dance styles, perhaps just to try it out for a season or two, to express our creativity, and learn something new.
But there are those dancers who are devoted to this pastime, which for them is not just a sport or an activity, but a way of life, a means to express their emotions, and it brings much pleasure to both them and the society to which they contribute.
