Any woman that has tried a Samuel Vartan dress knows that the process is unique and somewhat of a transformation. Vartan is an incredible multi-talented fashion designer. He describes his move to Montreal as crucial. He believes Montreal defines him in so many ways, as an artist and a person. Although he is incredibly proud of his Greek roots, spending the majority of his time growing up in Montreal was a gift.
The bustling European-influenced city was the perfect location for Vartan to explore his artistic interests. Vartan studied towards film and communication at Dawson College. He made many award-winning short films. He even produced some stop-motion animations. He thanks living in Montreal for allowing him to be able to express himself in so many ways.
Of course, Vartan wasn't financially successful overnight, so he worked part-time in a favorite clothing store and at a hospital. The part-time jobs allowed him to finance his artistic hobbies and interests. His love for fashion was accidental, as he discovered he had a passion for fashion after visiting a fabric shop with a friend who was a competing band. Later, his friend opened a leather store. Vartan designed several of the outfits for the shop, which all sold well. It wasn't before long that a popular restaurant asked him to create outfits for the staff. He continued to flourish in the fashion sector until Samuel Vartan Collections was established and registered in 1998 and incorporated in 2000.
Vartan gained attention from the local press when he sold his designs for two years from a stand-alone boutique in Brighton. At the time, Vartan stated that he knew the shop would close again within two years. However, the purpose of opening the store was to showcase how the clothes should be displayed correctly. Vartan's collection is currently only sold in high-end boutiques and isn't available to individual customers easily.
Vartan's collection includes the Mediterraneo look (spring/summer) and Dark City (winter/fall). The Mediterraneo collection is full of warm and light designs, to coincide with the climates of countries like Greece, Spain, and Italy. On the other hand, Dark City outfits represent an urban European underground vibe. The key to his collection is to ensure that the designs respect and flatter women's shapes with elegance. His range is aimed at women of all shapes, not just those that are thin.
You can see Vartan's collection at Boston's next fashion show. The event will be at Liberty Hotel in Boston. His lines will also be on show at New York's fashion week held in September.
